Oshawa Prestige Windows & Doors does window and door replacement in Pickering, ON, and here doors come up first more often than anywhere else we work. Front doors with sidelites, sliding patio doors, garden doors. Then the windows: casement, double hung, slider and basement. The visit and measure are free, and the written price comes after we've seen your frames.

Pickering sits about 27 km west of our Oshawa base, right where Durham Region meets Toronto. Our own crews do every install, with our 5-year installation warranty on top of the maker's. We'd rather fix your worst door this year than sell you a whole house at once. Heading north? We also cover Uxbridge. And our entry door replacement page walks through steel versus fibreglass.

Pickering Neighbourhoods and What Their Windows Need

We read a Pickering house by its decade before we look at the glass. Most of south Pickering went up as subdivisions after World War II, starting around Frenchman's Bay. The north is farms and hamlets, with Seaton growing in the middle of it. Three areas, three window stories.

Bay Ridges, Rosebank and Frenchman's Bay

The lakeside streets have 1950s and 1960s houses that are on their second or third set of windows. Lake wind hammers the south walls. Before quoting, our estimator puts a moisture meter on every wood sill. Solid wood gets a retrofit. Soft wood gets a full-frame install, back to the bare opening. No exceptions.

Amberlea and Liverpool

Amberlea and Liverpool filled in through the 1970s and 1980s, and plenty of those homes still have aluminum or first-generation vinyl sliders. They leak at the corners and fight you when you open them. We've seen the same swap work on street after street: casement windows, which press against their seals when you crank them shut.

New Builds in Seaton

Seaton is still under construction: as of 2022, 1,549 of its 20,989 planned homes had been built. New homeowners there usually keep their windows but ask about a better patio door, a front door with more glass, or a bigger basement window.

Patio Doors and Entry Doors in Pickering

Honestly, doors take more abuse than windows. They swing open dozens of times a day, carry heavy glass and face the weather on every side. A front door is a winter jacket zipper: the coat can be fine, but if the zipper's shot, you're cold.

Sliding Patio Door or Garden Door?

A sliding patio door needs no swing space, so it suits a small deck or a kitchen table near the door. A garden door has two hinged panels that open fully, which is great for summer but needs room to swing. Both can have a multipoint lock for better security.

Front Doors That Face Lake Wind

Fibreglass doors don't dent or rust, which matters near the lake. Steel doors cost less and are very strong, but a chip near the bottom can rust if you leave it. We think fibreglass is worth it on a door that faces south or east. Sidelites bring in light, and an adjustable threshold kills the draft at the floor.

Either one comes with a new frame, sill and weatherstripping when we replace the full system. Pick by the wall it faces. Then pick the colour.

Quieter Rooms Near Highway 401 and the 407

Highway 401 runs through south Pickering, where the bridge from the GO station to the downtown crosses 14 lanes of traffic. Highway 407 cuts across the middle of the city. Bedroom facing either one? In our experience, laminated glass and a properly sealed frame make the night quieter than a third pane would.

Is a heritage permit needed in Whitevale?

Yes, in most cases. The hamlet of Whitevale has been a Heritage Conservation District since 1993. Pickering's 2020 guidelines include a section on windows and doors, and changes in the district go through a heritage district permit. Call the City's heritage planner before ordering windows.

We can supply windows with traditional grille patterns and trim profiles that suit older houses, and we bring product details to help with the permit application.

Pickering Window and Door Services

What Pickering homeowners ask us about most, doors first.

  • Entry Door Replacement

We replace the whole door system: the slab, frame, sill and weatherstripping. Choose steel or fibreglass, with sidelites or a transom for more light in the front hall.

  • Sliding Patio Doors

A new sliding door rolls smoothly, locks properly and keeps cold air out of the kitchen. We fit it to your existing opening, so there's no drywall work inside.

  • Casement Windows

Casements crank open and press against their seals when closed. They are the usual replacement for the old sliders in Amberlea and Liverpool homes.

  • Laminated Glass Windows

Laminated glass has a plastic layer between two sheets of glass. It quiets traffic noise and holds together if broken, which makes it a good pick for bedrooms near the 401.

  • Double Hung Windows

Both sashes slide and tilt in for cleaning. They suit older homes near Frenchman's Bay and heritage houses in Whitevale, where a traditional look matters.

  • Basement Egress Windows

A bigger basement window can let a basement bedroom meet the building code for a way out in a fire. Enlarging the opening needs a permit. We confirm what's possible during the visit.

Pickering Window and Door Replacement FAQ

How much does a new front door cost in Pickering?

A new front door system usually costs a few thousand dollars installed, and more with sidelites, a transom or decorative glass. Steel is the most affordable; fibreglass costs more but resists dents and rust. We give you a written price after measuring the opening and checking the frame.

How much does patio door replacement cost in Pickering?

A sliding patio door usually costs $2,000 to $6,000 installed, based on a 2026 Ontario price guide. The price depends on width, glass, colour and hardware. Hinged garden doors usually cost more than sliders. We quote your exact door after a free in-home measure.

Can you replace windows and doors in one visit?

Yes, and in Pickering it's common. A front door, a patio door and a set of windows, one crew, usually one or two days depending on the openings. It costs less than booking each job on its own, because setup and travel happen once. We'll quote it as one job.

Do new windows help with noise from the 401?

Yes. Laminated glass cuts traffic noise more than standard double-pane glass does, and a frame that seals tight stops sound sneaking in around the edges. Start with the bedrooms that face the highway, since that's where you'll notice it at 2 a.m. We bring samples.

Do you install windows in Seaton new builds?

Yes. Seaton owners usually keep their new windows but upgrade a patio door, add a front door with more glass or enlarge a basement window. If your home is still under the builder's warranty, check its terms before changing windows or doors.

Do you serve Whitevale and Claremont?

Yes, we cover rural north Pickering, including Whitevale, Claremont and Brougham. Whitevale is a heritage district, so window and door changes there need a heritage district permit from the City. We provide the product details the City asks for.

Can sidelites be added to my front door in Pickering?

Often, yes. Adding sidelites or a transom means a wider or taller opening. Because the wall framing changes, a building permit is needed. On many 1970s and 1980s Pickering homes there is room beside the door to do it. We check the wall and the permit before quoting.
